We will construct a simple sailboat from bark and leaves, and then we will hike to the river to sail our tiny schooners. Using strainers and buckets, we will dip for organisms from the river's edge, look for evidence of beavers, and scan for birds from the observation tower.

We will join Drumlin Farm's Becky Gilles and her Peregrine Birders in hopes of getting close looks at herons, hawks, and warblers. As long as Mother Nature cooperates, the annual Winter Carnival will take place on Saturday, January 28, 2012. This annual event has only been canceled once, so we're hoping for a little cold and a little snow to get the show started at the Bartlet Mall in Newburyport.
The free event is hosted by the Newburyport Parks Commission and Newburyport Youth Services.
