July is the time to see such winged wonders as American ladies, swallowtails, monarchs, skippers, and more. At Joppa Flats, you'll see wild butterflies and captive caterpillars, learn about environmentally friendly products and practices for the home and garden, enjoy a guided nature walk on the grounds, and take home a fun craft or two.
Maudslay State Park invites you to a twilight hike! Join the park interpreter for an evening adventure walking through different areas of the park and exploring nature at dusk. A different route and topic each week, so make it a weekly event!
Maudslay State Park has a program that's a perfect pick for 8-12 year olds. Come just for fun or the “2 for 1”! Join the park interpreter for this fun program using nets, magnifiers and capture tanks to discover the hidden secrets in nature, and at the same time be eligible for Junior Rangers.
Emma Andrews Library and Community Center is hosting their annual fundraiser yard sale and bake sale on July 27 this year. Come join the fun and see what treasures you can find! All proceeds go to fund programs at the center. So clean out your closets, attics, cellars and garages, then bring your sellable goods to the Community Center! Curious Creatures will put on a free prestation at the Emma Andrews Library! Curious Creatures and their assortment of creatures has a great presentation for kids of all ages. In the event of rain, limited seating will be available inside the library. This is a free event and everyone is welcome to attend.
Magician Debbie O'Carroll will be performing her Fun and Games Magic Show in the Emma's backyard on Thursday, July 25 from 10am-12pm. Debbie is a "one of a kind" performer. She combines stage magic and theater with lots of audience participation to create captivating programs for children. This is a free event and everyone is welcome to attend.
The Winner’s Circle Running Club’s Annual Newburyport High Street Mile will start at Atkinson Common. This is a fast, flat USATF certified straight line course (USATF certification MA07009JK). Separate start times based on age division and sex. Proceeds will benefit the project to update and renew the Newburyport Track at Fuller Field and FONT (Friends of Newburyport Track).
Join the fun of the 3rd Annual Kayak and Paddle Board River Race. Participants will launch at Cashman Park boat ramp off Merrimac Street. The contestants will paddle up River at low tide/slack tide around Ram Island, Carr Island, Deer Island and back to Cashman Park with the out going tide, 4.6 miles.
The Newbuyrport Yankee Homecoming Bed Race is an annual event in Newburyport hosted by the Lions Club of Newburyport. The race is a ¼ mile team sprint down Federal Street to the finish line. Each team consists of 3 pushers, 2 pullers and a 'sleeper', and the goal is to get to the finish line with the bed and sleeper in the fastest time! This is a fun event for the communityr and always draws a big crowd. Come cheer on your favorite team, or just watch the fun! Funds raised will go to Lions Club charities.
Olde Fashioned Sunday in Downtown Newburyport will be a great day to remember the beginnings of our Yankee Homecoming celebrations. We can enjoy some “new” events so as to make future memories for the current younger generations as the past has given some of us the “good ole’ days” to remember. Olde Fashioned Sunday 2018 begins on the stage with the opportunity to show the audience your favorite pets. Every person and pet is a winner in this event. The formal opening of Yankee Homecoming will include the introduction of all the past chairperson and the singing of the national anthem.
