The Salem Jazz & Soul Festival is a free event the whole family will enjoy. Safiya Leslie is an artist and producer who transcends the norm. Flavoring her sounds with musical dialects hailing from jazz and her Afro-Caribbean roots. Safiya and her powerful band combine jazz chops, urban attitude, and Caribbean beauty.
The Essex Street Fair is a two-day event held in downtown Salem and is part of the Slemn Heritage Festivities! Come visit the Essex Street Fair during Salem Heritage Days to see over 40 vendors, listen to some live music, and enjoy historic Salem. The Essex Street Fair will be held along the Essex Street Pedestrian Mall and you can shop on Saturday & Sunday, August 11 & 12, from 10am-6pm. NEW THIS YEAR the Salem YMCA is joining forces with the Salem Education Foundation to transform the Salem Common into a paradise for children with moon bounces, rides, games, and arts and crafts. Some new additions are learning how to write your name in a different language, learning how to drum, bilingual storytelling, and special performances throughout the evening.

House of Seven Gables invites families to learn about sailing the high seas with a variety of family-friendly and hands-on activities. The Family Navigation Game is offered daily from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. The Living History Labs hands-on history experience will take place daily from 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
