Did you know that nature plays its own game of hide-and-seek? In order to survive, animals and insects use many disguises. They can stay very still, blend in with their surroundings, and even change color. We'll take a hike to look for these secretive creatures that hide themselves from prying eyes.
Let's head outdoors to our spectacular local habitats to see what's new! We love to find things; think about colors, shapes, and patterns; and wonder why this place is a special home to wildlife. You and your preschooler will both enjoy this fun, energetic format for exploring nature.
Hammond Castle ost a fun night of Halloween fun for kids! Calling all Ghosts and Goblins to our very first Tricks Or Treats at Hammond Castle Museum! On October 30th, between 3 and 5 pm, we welcome all children on Cape Ann to dress in their best gowns, their scariest masks, their most outrages costumes and to join us for pumpkin decorating, trick or treating, and warm cider and snacks!
Please join us for pumpkin decorating, face painting, music, cider donuts and more! Decorated pumpkins may be left to be submitted into the MFF's Pumpkin Illumination on 10/24 (for a chance to win prizes!). Admission include everything needed to decorate a pumpkin! Hosted by the Marblehead Family Fund and the Marblehead Recreation Department.
Kids ages 3-6 are invited to join this fun, engaging activity session where they will learn about nature through stories, craft and outdoor activitiies. Topics vary by week, so come for them all! Meets at the Nature Center at 40 Asbury Street. An adult must accompany children. For outdoor programs wear comfortable clothes and sturdy closed toe shoes, insect repellent, and sunscreen. Bring water. Inclement weather cancels outdoor programs.
Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary invites families for a great exploration of the pond habitat! Though they are small, ponds contain a rich variety of plant and animal life. Explore Waterfowl Pond for a close-up look at a place where hungry creatures are always on the hunt. Using nets and other collecting equipment, dip into the water, sweep through the weeds, and scoop up mud to discover the creatures that live there.
Manchester Public Library Seaside Knitwits are knitting and crocheting hats for Boston children (sizes infant through 18 years old) in need finishing and packing on November 4th, at 4 PM.
Seaside Knitwits is the recently, and loosely formed, Manchester Public Library group that is anyone interested in helping with this endeavor. All hats will be packed to be mailed at this November meeting, in plenty of time for the Caps for Beantown (a registered 501c3 group) to receive and distribute in time for cold weather.
Enjoy the morning at Pavilion Beach in Ipswich while helping your community and the environment! As part of COASTSWEEP 2019, volunteers are encouraged to come to Pavilion Beach - Ipswich to help in the statewide effort to keep our coastline clean along the shore in Ipswich, Massachsuetts. Trash collected will be measured and analyzed, and the data will be sent to Washington DC to aid the government in creating legislation to minimize trash in our oceans!
Come to the Hastings House to meet the Easter Bunny and join the egg hunt! The hunt will start promptly at 10:30 am! We look forward to the kick off to SPRING! Festive refreshments will be served!
