Peabody Essex Museum is excited to have families come see their new space at the museum designed just for innovation! The Maker Lounge is dedicated to creativity and innovation through hands-on exploration with technology, materials and ideas. It builds on PEM's tradition of bringing together new and inspiring objects from around the world and celebrating creative expression through human ingenuity. Tackle a design challenge or tinker with all kinds of materials from circuits to cardboard saws. Both energizing and relaxing, the space has music, iPads and universal phone chargers.

Winnie-the-Pooh: Exploring a Classic, at the MFA - Boston

Get ready for an adventure with your favorite bear. The beloved teddy bear at the center of Winnie-the-Pooh, first published in 1926 and translated into more than 50 languages, is one of the most famous children’s book characters of all time. This exhibition traces the history and universal appeal of the classic Winnie-the-Pooh stories written by A. A. Milne and illustrated by E. H. Shepard through nearly 200 works drawn primarily from the archives of the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Presented in a truly immersive display, the original drawings, letters, photographs, and early editions, along with whimsical ephemera, take visitors on a journey exploring how the stories of Pooh and his friends Eeyore, Kanga and Roo, Owl, Piglet, Rabbit, Tigger, and Christopher Robin have stood the test of time and continue to delight generations of readers around the world.

Opening on September 24, don’t miss “Mark Rothko: Reflection,” an immersive display of 11 masterpieces by the artist, on loan from the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. The artworks showcase the full sweep of Rothko’s career—from early surrealist work and multiform compositions to classic color field paintings—and trace his exploration of the expressive potential of color.
