The Flower Project

Appleton Farms is looking for teen volunteers to help with the Flower Project!

Appleton Farms needs volunteers for their Flower Project service learning program that engages youth in the planning, growing, cutting and arranging of flowers. The program culminates as participants deliver their arrangements weekly to area nursing homes and hospice patients. The program meets weekly in July and August.  Teens are encouraged to sign up for the whole Summer season.

Are you in a cooking rut and out of ideas for daily dinners?  This class will inspire creativity for preparing great family dishes, last-minute meals, and hearty comfort foods using the basic staples found in your very own cupboards! We promise you will walk away feeling ready to cook again, with many recipes to guide you. We will sit down at the end of class and enjoy a full meal together.

Learn all about tarts from a master baker at the Trustees Appleton Farms in Ipsw

Jackie King, co-owner of A&J King Artisan Bakers in Salem, will show you the basics of tart production and assembly using three distinct methods. Based on the recipes and techniques outlined in her new book, Baking by Hand, participants will create three tarts from start to finish—to bring home or eat right away! This class is perfect for the aspiring pastry chef, sweet lover, or home cook. Join us for this inspiring workshop, then stop by the Appleton Farms Dairy Store to pick up your own copy of Baking by Hand.

Come to Marini Farm for a FREE anti-bullying awareness concert! To recognize national anti-bullying month, the farm will come alive with music focused on the theme of ending bullying.  Spookley the Square Pumpkin, National Bullying Prevention Month's mascot, will be onsite to teach kids about the disruptive nature of bullying, and to support kids who have been bullied.

Come see how baseball used to be played (circa 1860s) at Spencer Pierce Farm

It’s Base Ball, 1861 style at Spencer Peirce Little Farm! Watch the teams of the new Essex Base Ball Association play for the Championship! The Newburyport Clamdiggers, Portsmouth Rockinghams, Lynn Live Oaks, and Lowell Base Ball Nine will play baseball using 1860s rules. These fun, historically accurate games feature underhand pitching and no gloves are allowed. A ball bounced once and caught is an out! Snacks, baseballs, and cards are available for purchase. Come and see for yourself how this game was played in the 1860's!

Witness the rhythms and relics of New England's oldest working farm. Walk along bucolic meadows, planted fields, and see our grazing cattle before visiting the historic buildings. See the newly renovated, LEED certified, Old House Visitor Center and go behind the scenes in the dairy area, which is normally closed to the public.

Join the farmhand crew to work along side our staff at Appleton Farms

Calling volunteers ages 13 and up! Join the farmhand crew to work along side our staff and gain first hand experience with our milking herd, planting and harvesting vegetables and flowers for the Community Supported Agriculture program, and raising chickens!  Each week will be different and follow the rhythms of the farm. Teens are encouraged to sign up for multiple weeks to see how their work contributes throughout the season. Space is limited.
