Valentine's Day Candy-Making and Cookie Decorating for Teens

Teens can make their own Valentine's Day candy at this NPL workshop!

Why would you buy candies for Valentine's Day when you can make your own?  Teens in grades 7-12 are invited to Children's Activity Room at the Newburyport Public Library  for a Candy making and cookie decorating workshop! Whether it is for someone else or yourself, these sweets will always taste better than store bought!

Clay Sculpting with Ann McCrea

Ann McCrae has 30 + years of art teaching experience.

Kids will hear a story, then use clay to sculpt a character from the book! Hear the story "[amazon 978-0531070796 inline]" by Ursula LeGuin where a boy is rescued by his sister after being captured by trolls.  After the story, local artist, storyteller and teacher Ann McCrea will help kids use modeling clay to sculpt a troll!

Come to the opening day celebration of this wonderfully unique exhibit of Native American Art!  Shapeshifting is a common theme in today's fiction and science fiction, but did you know this theme has been present in Native American art, dance, music and story telling for millennia? Peabody Essex Museum invites you to explore this concept of transformation through paintings, ceramics, textiles, photographs, videos and monumental installations drawn from collections in the United States, Canada and Europe!

The Daughter of Winter is based in Essex Massachusets during the mid 1800s

Pat Lowery Collins’ novel [amazon 978-0763645007 inline] is based in mid-19th century Essex. This story of a twelve year old girl’s experience living on Hog Island during the winter brings together tales of the Essex landscape, the California gold rush and the Eastern Woodland Native Americans. This family program is fun for all ages and is free to the public.

Art Show Featuring Recycled Beach Finds

Learn about using recycled marine debris to create art at this presentation

Don't miss a special exhibit beginning with a lecture in honor of National Recycling Day. The art show will feature the work of Nina Cassel Samoiloff (read more about her HERE on Good Morning Gloucester) and the pieces she creates using elements she finds washed up on the beaches of Rockport. Her work will be on display in the NOAA Fisheries lobby weekdays from 8:00am – 4:30pm from November 15th until December 15th.
