The Lorax, star of the Dr. Seuss book by the same name, will be visiting the Children’s Museum to greet young fans and help promote the love of reading.At the Books Alive event, museum staff will be reading “The Lorax” by beloved author Dr. Seuss throughout the day. The friendly costumed character Lorax will be popping in and out to greet children, exchange a hug or high-five, and pose for photos. There will also be a variety of Seuss-inspired literacy, math and creative activities for children in the museum’s large classroom.
The Lorax was originally published in 1971 and focuses on protecting the environment. The Lorax speaks out for saving trees and looking out for the planet, and the book’s message is as relevant today as it was forty years ago. Based on a 2007 online poll, the National Education Association named the book one of its "Teachers' Top 100 Books for Children." It was one of the "Top 100 Picture Books" of all time in a 2012 poll by School Library Journal.
