Native Americans in Marblehead

Events for Kids at the Abbot Library Marblehead MA

The Friends of Abbot Library will present "Native Americans in Marblehead" with Donald A. Doliber. The talk will focus on the town's early inhabitants with information about the Paleo-Indian settlement. Doliber’s presentation also will include an archeological demonstration and a question-and-answer period.

This program will take place in the Library’s Meeting Room.  Refreshments will be provided.

Mr. Doliber will be the featured speaker for the Annual Meeting of the Friends of Abbot Library. A very brief election of officers for the Friends will precede Mr. Doliber’s talk.

Don Arthur Doliber is the Past President of the Essex Society of Genealogists and a contributing editor to its journal, The Essex Genealogist.  After receiving his Master of Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in American History, Mr. Doliber has been a teacher and was the Assistant Principal at Masconomet Regional High School in Boxford, Massachusetts.  In 1983, the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution cited him at their annual Continental Congress as the “Outstanding American History Teacher in the United States.”  In 1984, the Freedom Foundation at Valley Forge recognized him with their “George Washington Medal for Excellence in Education.”

In 1986, Mr. Doliber was the keynote speaker at the DeCentennial Conference (Maine Genealogical Society) where he delivered an outstanding address entitled “Airing the Family Laundry.” The Massachusetts Secondary School Administrators Association selected Mr. Doliber as the “Massachusetts Assistant Principal of the Year,” and he represented the State at a national conference in Washington, D.C.  In the eyes of serious genealogists, his most outstanding undertaking is his current research in tracing the descendants of the entire Doliber-Dolliver family in America, one of the earliest families in Marblehead and Gloucester, Massachusetts.  An accomplished public speaker and noted humorist, he has spoken on many different topics including Essex County families, genealogical research, the 1692 Witchcraft Hysteria, superstitions, Early Native-American life, immigration, and local history.

The Abbot Public Library is located at 235 Pleasant Street, Marblehead, MA 01945. For additional information, please call 781-631- 1481, or consult the Library’s website at www.abbotlibrary.org.
