The Ryal Side Civic Association is happy to present the 6th annual Ryal Side Christmas Tree Bonfire! Wear your Ryal Side hoodie and come enjoy a great bonfire, warm beverages, cookies, and the best neighbors ever. Remember to leave time to walk in - no onsite parking.
Bring your Christmas tree with you that evening, drop it off at the beach after January 2nd or leave it out for curbside pickup beginning January 2nd. The Annual Tree Burning at Riverhead Beach is scheduled for Saturday, January 6, 2024. The Christmas Tree pile will be set alight at 6 p.m. Residents are invited to attend this community event . Trees will be picked up at the curbside from Wednesday, December 27, 2023, through Friday January 5, 2024, and will be placed at Riverhead Beach for the community bonfire on Monday evening January 6, 2025.
Rockport New Year’s Eve (RNYE) is a family-friendly year-end celebration of the arts held in downtown Rockport, Massachusetts annually since 1996. Halls, churches, town offices, and some streets are taken over by happy revelers celebrating the New Year.
Ring in the New Year at noon with North Shore Children’s Museum! You and a special stuffed animal friend are invited to celebrate with us on Tuesday, December 31 from 10AM-12PM. Tickets include access to our 14 different exhibits, a New Year’s Magic Show with special guest Tom Foolery, New Year’s crafts, and dancing. We will end the party with a countdown to noon and ball drop!
While just about everybody on the North Shore has probably been to Crane Beach, the dunes of Castle Neck are a much less explored world unto themselves. Offering one of the most accessible dune ecosystems north of Cape Cod, Castle Neck has over six miles of trails, traversing the dunes, maritime scrub forest, and beautiful beaches on both the Ipswich Bay and Essex/Castle Neck River estuary sides of the peninsula. These trails take you through Pitch Pine forests, up huge dunes offering stunning views of Choate Island, and by the varied landscapes of Castle Neck, including naturally occurring cranberry bogs.
Come ring in the New Year with us! Salem Main Streets and the City of Salem are teaming up to throw LAUNCH!, our family-friendly New Year’s Eve party, on Tuesday, Dec. 31 from 4:30 pm to 6 pm on Artists’ Row at 24 New Derby Street. There will be an early countdown just before 6 pm.
First Day Hikes take place at nearby State Parks nationwide on New Year's Day. The annual hike originated more than 20 years ago at the Blue Hills Reservation in Massachusetts. The program was launched to promote both healthy lifestyles throughout the year and year-round recreation at state parks. On the North Shore, there will be First Day hikes at Halibut Point State Park, Downtown Essex & Harold Parker State Forest.
In this workshop, participants will learn to make bakery-quality bread with local flour in their home oven. Culinary Program Manager Jess Porter will demonstrate mixing, folding, shaping, proofing, scoring, and baking Appleton’s flagship Farmstead Sourdough. We will discuss sourdough starter maintenance as well, as each new baker will be taking home some of Appleton’s own sourdough starter. Participants will be involved in hands-on experience mixing and shaping their own loaves, with the option of taking them home to bake! Class ends with fresh bread and a seasonal accompaniment to enjoy.

Join the Park Interpreter for this weekly guided hike! Each trip will highlight natural and historic features unique to Breakheart. Hikes are moderately paced and range from 2-3 miles over sometimes uneven and rocky terrain. Best for ages 8 years and up. Meet at the Visitor Center.
