Thousands of years ago, New England was completely buried under glacial sheets of ice that were miles high. The ice melted into water that flowed away to the sea, but it left behind permanent reminders of it's presence - giant boulders perched in the oddest places.
Find out about the forces of nature that formed Ravenswood’s landscape. Huge ice chunks from melting glaciers created kettle ponds, bogs, and swamps. Glaciers also deposited rocks and soils over the Cape Ann granite, leaving boulders at irregular intervals and forming a long, low hill. On this guided walk, we’ll take a closer look at Ravenswood’s geology and what the glaciers left behind.
