For the week of March 21-25, Gloucester High School, in partnership with Arbella Insurance, will be hosting a safe driving event, DISTRACTOLOGY. Teens will get a firsthand experience of how distractions interfere with their ability to react on the road, see hidden hazards and avoid accidents while safely behind the wheel of a driving simulator. It’s real. It’s useful. And it’s memorable. There's availability for students from the Cape Ann area to participate during after school hours. Hosted by Eastern Insurance.
The numbers prove it. Every year thousands of people will be injured or killed in crashes that could have been prevented. And you can be sure every one of them was confident in his or her ability to drive while distracted.
Boston Bruins' Tim Thomas Takes the Distractology Challenge
The Arbella Insurance Group Charitable Foundation, Inc. (“Arbella”) knows how dangerous distracted driving is for new drivers. Arbella sponsors research in the area of distracted driving at the College of Engineering, University of Massachusetts Amherst. Arbella decided to bring the benefits of driver simulator training to new drivers by creating a mobile classroom called the Distractology 101 Tour. This training puts new drivers behind the wheel of a simulator console created by the university. The simulator challenges drivers with a variety of common driving situations to give them a firsthand look at how a distraction can make the difference between being safe and being a statistic.
