Joppa Flats Education Center helps families beat the blahs and keep minds active and hands busy during school break! Head out into the wild with kids and families for great outdoor explorations this April vacation. For families with children ages 3 and up, School and Youth Education Coordinator Lisa Hutchings is taking field gear, table-top science displays, and art equipment to local wetlands. You’ll bird with binoculars, learn about temporary collecting, sketch and journal, try wildlife photography, and revel in habitat exploration.  “Seining the Salt Marsh at Rough Meadows” meets Thursday, April 20, at Rowley’s Rough Meadows Wildlife Sanctuary. All materials are provided and no registration is required. Adults must accompany children. Maximum family price of $32. Mass Audubon members receive discounts.

Chase Argy the Gorilla down Argilla Road in Ipswich Ma in this fun 5k for all ages!
This fun-filled family event kicks off the 2017 YMCA North Shore Road Race Series, now in its 11th year! Argy the gorilla has completed this wandering 5K course through the wooded neighborhoods of Ipswich, on everything from running shoes to a Segway to the back seat of a convertible!  Bring the kids along for workout games with Argy (the Gorilla)! Post-race awards, music, photos, refreshments and more! This race is open to all ages.

Collaborate and Create! The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), invites families to meet and make art together with other families. Artists have always collaborated for inspiration and to create art. Along with art making, enjoy a dance performance, go on a family art walk, and listen to children’s stories. Enjoy free drop-in activities all week, supported by the Cogan Family Foundation.

Seaside Sustainability programs are built on a foundation that emphasizes the importance of sustainability in harboring an earth in which future generations will be able to thrive.  Seaside Education Adventure (SEA) was the first program to grow out of this idea, and pairs marine ecology ideas with hands-on nature learning. This combination introduces local youth to the short and long term effects of a variety of ocean threats.  These boat-based trips take students out onto the water to learn about oceanography, water sustainability, and ecosystem balance.  This year, Seaside Sustainability is offering two SEA programs:

Manchester Public Library programs for kids
Calling all ages! Create a diorama, using those deliciously sweet, marshmallow Peeps as your main characters. Let your imagination run to peeps as you illustrate your favorite book or movie. Bags of peeps are available at the library (while supplies last), or supply your own. Dioramas and entry forms need to be submitted between May 8th and May 12st. The public is then invited to view through May 19th and cast their vote for the The Peeple’s Choice Award.
