Ipswich Celebrates Ed and Barbara Emberley

Come meet author/Illustrator Ed Emberley at the Ipswich Public Library!

During April school vacation week the Ipswich Public library will celebrate hometown author/illustrator Ed Emberley with a variety of programs including events on Wednesday, April 23, and Saturday, April 26.

On Saturday, April 26, the Ipswich Library will host a special family event - Ipswich Celebrates Ed Emberley. Hands-on exhibits will be set up for step-by-step drawing, fingerprint art and an Ed Emberley apps for the iPad. Mr. and Mrs. Emberley will be available to chat and to sign guest’s personal copies of their favorite titles. Children are invited to bring their Ed Emberley drawing book creations to show the artist.

Emberley is best known for his children's book work - particularly instructional drawing books. Emberley believes that everyone can learn to draw. His drawing books for children feature clear step-by-step instructions employing numbers, letters, and shapes graded to the early elementary school level. Mr. Emberley is the illustrator and author of over 80 books, including the bestselling Go Away, Big Green Monster! and his enormously popular "Drawing Book" series. He has received many awards and accolades, including a Caldecott Honor in 1967 for One Wide River to Cross and a Caldecott Medal in 1968 for Drummer Hoff

This program was made possible by a grant from the Ipswich Local Cultural Council, an agent of the Mass Cultural Council.
