Ipswich River Watershed Association hosts a fish printing craft session during Ipswich Evergreen. Participants will be repurposing real fish (shad, originally used for scientific research) and making beautiful and unique prints which can be used for gifts, decorations, cards, or anything your heart desires!
This free event takes place on the Ipswich Middle Green, near the Hall Haskell House in Ipswich and is open to the public.
From making a fish print you can head direclty to Ipswich Evergreen – a free make-you-own-wreath event. You’ll also be able to make pinecone birdfeeders and the shop the pop up thrift store put on by the Ipswich High School Sustainability Scholars! If that’s not enough, we’ve got a beautiful brass quartet who will be playing merry music for us.
Come down and enjoy an afternoon of community and crafting!
Why print fish? This process is called Gyotaku and is a the traditional Japanese method of printing fish. Originally a way for fishermen to record what they caught, this record-keeping practice has also become an art form of its own.
