The Essex Division of the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the annual Essex ClamFest in Memorial Park in Essex. The highlight of the day will be the Clam Chowder Tasting, a competition that pits area restaurants against one another to determine who serves the best clam chowder on Cape Ann. Local restaurants are expected to serve up their favorite chowder recipes starting at noon and ending about 2 pm. Judges of the chowder will be announced in advance. The public will also have the opportunity to sample and vote on their favorite chowder.
Bring the whole family to this event! Decorate your trunk/car in a scary, silly, funny manner or pick a theme and bring lots of candy or prizes to hand out to our Trunk or Treaters. Dress in costume and be creative. Please keep it family friendly. There will be a prize for the best trunk. YOU MUST PRE-REGISTER AS A TRUNKER
U. S. National Park Rangers host free tours at the Saugus Iron Works. Learn about the production of iron on this site in the mid-1600s, an endeavor that was integral to the growth of the early colony. Hear about the archeological dig and reconstruction of the site in the 1940s to 1950s. Upon availability, this tour may include the operation of waterwheels, the 500-pound hammer, the rolling mill, and blacksmithing demonstrations. Tour lasts about one hour and is outdoors.
Essex National Heritage Area sites will offer over 150 free family fun events from September 20-29, 2019 for the annual celebration of TRAILS & SAILS. Participants can hike, bike, paddle, stroll or sail through the region and Essex National Heritage Area will provide a passport to fun and adventure. It’s all FREE and it’s all located within the 34 cities and towns of Essex County.

This annual summer tradition, now in its 58th year, hosts over 120 vendors, street food, live music and children’s activities.
