Everyone's invited to enter Wenham Museum’s gingerbread contest, Flavorful Fantasies! Imagine the Gingerbread Express model train traveling through a sugar coated village filled with cleverly crafted buildings that make the world a sweeter place: a candy cane factory, pizza parlor or even a green grocer! Build your gingerbread "house" at home or construct one at The Wenham Tea House on December 7th and enter it in the museum's contest! All buildings will be returned to the owners following the Gingerbread Express model train layout display on December 16, 2013.
“The Gingerbread Express delights people of all ages — from 2 to 92. They seem to love looking at each individual gingerbread structure and then vote for their favorite. Each entry is unique and has a story behind it,” said Mary Barthelmes, museum marketing manager.
“The idea of a gingerbread contest came from our mission of interpreting how we have lived, worked, dressed and played through three centuries. Holiday celebrations are certainly a big part of that and decorating gingerbread is a tradition that dates back to Colonial times. The contest invites our visitors to participate in exhibiting their contemporary take on this traditional art form,” said Mary McDonald, the Museum's educator.
