Gift of the Magi and Other Stories

Join the Joppa Dancers at the Firehouse Center for the Arts for Holiday Dance.

The Joppa Dance Company returns to the Firehouse Center for the Arts with dance interpretations of popular holiday stories! For 2011, Joppa and Firehouse Center for the Arts are taking on holiday and winter themes for a performance that can be described as, dance operas. The dance-stories vary in styles including ballet, modern, and contemporary.

Joppa Junior will be presenting a three-part winter piece:

  • “Trees and Ice” to music by Radiohead, (a dance poem of winter loveliness)
  • “Elves vs Candy Canes” to music by Bow Wow Wow
  • “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” to music by Vince Guaraldi and words by Robert Frost.

Joppa II will perform a narrated interpretation of the classic poem 'T'was the Night Before Christmas' set to the music of Tori Amos, Ludovico Einaudi, and Michelle Tumes.

Joppa T'2, (9th & 10th grade) directed by Jen Steeves present "The Stocking" based on the legend of the Christmas Stocking. Set to music by  Lia Ices, Meav, and Studio All Stars.

Joppa Teen interprets 'The Gift of the Magi' with director Fontaine Dubus and music by Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Enya. The story of Seven sisters - cousins to seven sisters in a distant village- is thick with irony when they, at last, make the journey and exchange gifts with their distant cousins!  It's a story of selfless giving that will entertain the whole family.
