Annisquam Village Players: The Wizard of OZ

Annisquam Village Players Summer Performance at the Annisquam Village Hall

This August Annisquam Village Players are bringing to the Annisquam stage the best known show of musical theater — THE WIZARD OF OZ. That’s right, the movie that everyone who is reading this letter grew up with and whose songs still inspire every child and young-at-heart adult. This summer production will be sheer pleasure from start to finish Who hasn’t sung “Over the Rainbow,” “We’re off to see the Wizard,” and “Ding-dong, the Witch is Dead” countless times. This story, over 100 years old, has inspired the most popular musical of the last decade, WICKED.

The twister which set the story rolling is not a relic of the past, either — everyone remembers the tornado which wiped out many towns in the western part of this state just a mere nine months ago, and still has those towns reeling. The message of this show, beyond the wonderful characters who populate Oz, is one of self-discovery, following one’s dreams, and finding the end of the rainbow. The classic movie, which came out in 1939, set Judy Garland on the road to stardom.
