But when the United States Army drafts Birdie, manager Albert Peterson sees his meal ticket preparing to fly the coop (much to the delight of longtime love Rose Alvarez, who can’t wait for Albert to ditch the music biz and become something respectable, like an English teacher).

The annual Gloucester Public Schools Arts Festival continues to grow with another extensive downtown event planned this Saturday, May 14. Art and performances from children in preschool through high school will be displayed at organizations and in downtown Gloucester. This year West Parish and Plum Cove Elementary art teachers Paula Morgan and Lisa Groleau will invite the public to join in the fun and participate in colorful cut paper collage-making in the style of French artist Henri Matisse.
Gloucester Education Foundation proudly hosts is proud to host the second Power of Play Festival, a day of play for Gloucester families and kids of all ages. Play is an important learning tool that promotes creative and innovative thinking. Play also helps kids develop skills that are a foundation for life-long success, including critical thinking, communication, problem solving, and collaboration.
Cruise for Schools on the Beauport Princess – supporting innovation in education in Gloucester Public Schools
The Gloucester Education Foundation’s 2014 summer fundraiser, “Cruise for Schools” is coming Sunday, July 27, 2014 from 5-8pm. The event will be a sunset cruise aboard the Beauport Princess, docked at Cruiseport in downtown Gloucester, and will feature live music, including performances by local musicians and musically talented teachers and administrators.
Sandy Bay Preschool invites the community to a family event filled with games, crafts, and raffles. Children are encouraged to wear their favorite pajamas and bring a sleeping bag for a showing of hometown favorite, Finding Nemo!
Pizza, snacks & family friendly drinks will be available for purchase. Picnics are welcome but no alcohol please.
Come to this once-a-year event sponsored by the Essex PTO and meet local artists as they share their crafts with hands-on projects designed for kids. There will be opportunities to work with paint, sculpture, clay, printmaking, wood and more. Join the fun in the school cafeteria. This is a free event.
