For three days, this annual family friendly art festival transforms downtown Salem into an opportunity for the arts community to showcase their talents. Symphony by the Sea presents A Winter Serenade.The string orchestra, with its incredible range and blended sonority, has always enticed composers to explore its exciting possibilities and to compose some of their best music. Mozart’s elegant nighttime serenade (Eine kliene Nachtmusik), Shostakovich’s anguished pleas against war, and Tchaikovsky’s energetic, dance-infused Serenade combine for a memorable afternoon of great music making. *A reception with complimentary refreshments follows this concert.
