This weekend the Artists of Rocky Neck will host the 2010 Rocky Neck Winter Stroll. The weather is going to be milder and Rocky Neck has a large parking lot with an incredible ocean view so the parking is super easy. There is a huge park across the street from the parking lot so the kids can burn some energy and enjoy a packed lunch there. Last Stop Variety is right around the corner where hot soup, sandwiches, drinks and treats can be bought.
It's a nice opportunity to get some holiday shopping done and have a lovely time doing it. Many of the galleries will be open with festive offerings including: Elynn Kroger, Side Street, Sigrid Olsen, Goetteman Gallery, John Nesta Gallery, and IMAGINE Gift Shop and Gallery.
Almost every American artist of note has painted on Rocky Neck at some point in his or her career including Milton Avery, Cecilia Beaux, Theresa Bernstein, Nell Blaine, Stuart Davis, Frank Duveneck, Adolph Gottleib, Childe Hassam, Hans Hofmann, Winslow Homer, Edward Hopper, Fitz Henry Lane, William Meyerowitz, Frederick Mulhaupt, Maurice Prendergast, Mark Rothko, John Sloan, and many others.
Today over 30 working artists display their work in Rocky Neck galleries and studios, exhibiting a wide range of styles and media. In addition to the galleries, area restaurants provide gourmet cuisine, waterfront views, and eclectic atmosphere.
