Jan's Pitch for Breast Cancer and the Arts

Come to a vintage baseball match that raises funds for breast cancer research at Spencer Peirce Little Farm in Newbury

Join the Essex Base Ball Organization on October 14th, 2017, as members of the vintage base ball community will be participating in the 5th annual Jan’s Pitch for Breast Cancer and the Arts, to raise money for cancer research and to fund art education in inner city schools in Lawrence, MA. Three games will take place at the beautiful Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm, featuring teams from all over New England and beyond.

Bring your own picnic and beverages -- prizes will be awarded for best presentation, food, and spirit of the sporting days of yesteryear! Look for your host, Essex Heritage Commissioner Forrester "Tim" Clark-- a former polo player--who will explain the game to you! Tim will be assisted by several current and past players who will give their own insights on this ancient and fascinating game.

Kayak the twists and turns of Fox Creek in Ipswich with the Trustees of Reservations

Join The Trustees of Reservations to kayak the winding waters that meander through the marsh between the Ipswich River and Essex Bay. We’ll start our adventure at Steep Hill Beach, then paddle into the Ipswich River to Fox Creek, traveling through the oldest man-made tidewater canal in the United States! As we wend our way through the marsh, we’ll be on the lookout for herons, egrets, and other shore birds -- with luck we’ll spot an osprey hunting for its supper!  We’ll supply the kayaks and lifejackets; please call to learn more.

The Escape from Boston Revolutionary War Reenactment is a weekend encampment and battle scenario that plays out this “what-if” scenario that might have changed the course of the American Revolution. Meet Revolutionary War soldiers from both sides of the conflict. Members of the Continental Line and His Majesty's First Regiment of Foot Guards re-enact a retreat from Boston with cannon, cavalry, and drills throughout the day. Come watch the colonial forces battle with the British Redcoats at the Escape from Boston Revolutionary War Reenactment to determine our destiny as a nation.
