Imagine, Sing, & Learn: Clams & Scud Live in the Mud

Preschoolers will learn clams & other mud creatures at Joppa Flats Center

Preschoolers join Joppa Flats Naturalists in an active, fun, program where they will learn what makes a salt marsh special, what lives in a salt marsh, how these animals find their food, and a chance to touch and hold live animals from the salt marsh! Using group games, songs, and fun interactive props, we’ll turn your preschooler into estuary enthusiasts! We’ll also make a take home craft  and enjoy a tasty salt marsh looking snack!

Fairy Festival at Wenham Museum

Wenham Museum is pround to annouce the 2nd Annual Faery Festival at Wenham Museum!

Gossamer wings, faery wands, and enchanting tales of far away places. Sip faery tea and decorate tiny faery houses with special guest Liza Walsh author of the Fairy Garden Handbook. Wear your own costume or borrow one of ours. Professional photographs are available through Underwood Photography. Reserve a copy of the fairy book in the Museum Shop.

Firefly Foray

Come Explore Maudslay State Park on a Firefly Expedition!

Fireflys, also called lightning bugs, appear for only a few weeks in the early summer to delight us with their luminous nighttime dance and light show. During this fun evening family adventure at Maudslay, learn about the life of a firefly and take a firefly walk led by the park interpreter. Bring a net or jar to catch fireflies, and learn how you can help with firefly monitoring. Comfortable walking shoes and bug spray are recommended.  Meet at the park headquarters on 74 Curzon Mill Road.

Family Fun Free Day - Light Our Way!

Families can learn about lighthouses and their importance to marine navigation

The second Saturday of every month is free for families with school-aged children. Families are invited to the Activity Center to participate in art, history, and cultural activities, and explore the museum using a Seek and Find. Each month has a different theme, from exhibitions to special celebrations. May 2013's theme: Light My Way Families are invited to the Children's Activity Center to participate in lighthouse themed art, history and cultural activities. This program is free and open to the public.

Art in the Shipyard!

Kids will create art at the Essex Shipbuilding Musem each Wednesday afternoon!

See, learn, find, create! Young artists are invited to enjoy drawing, painting, print making, and sculpture using the Museum's shipyard and artifacts for inspiration. All materials are provided for projects. All ages are welcome. Those seven and younger must be accompanied by an adult. A public exhibit of the art work produced will take place at the museum. This program is supported in part by the Essex Cultural Council, a local agency, through the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. For more information and to reserve a spot email or call.
