For kids who enjoyed our school year “Ocean Explorers” program, this program is for you. Come and have fun on the Maritime Gloucester working waterfront. Program includes: aquarium activities, scavenger hunts, hauling lobster traps, conducting research, building stuff, waterfront visits, and getting on the water, piers and floats at Maritime Gloucester. Available only to Gloucester students in grades 3rd through 5th.
Working together to build one boat, students will use woodworking tools, measuring, cutting, screwing and glueing while learning concepts of boat design (stability, speed, displacement, etc). In addition, students will explore other topics of marine science and maritime heritage in our museum, aquarium and waterfront site. A popular course last year, a second session could be offered if there is enough interest.
Haul the sails and head out on an adventure of a life time! Maritime Gloucester and the Schooner Ardelle join forces to offer the ever-popular Coastal Explorers summer program! During this week-long program, participants will be part of the crew on the Schooner Ardelle on daily voyages to ports and islands along the North Shore in search of adventure and excitement.
Climb aboard and set a course for fun & exploration! Through this week-long program students will learn to sail a traditional Gloucester fishing schooner while participating in exciting hands-on marine science and maritime heritage explorations at Maritime Gloucester & along the coast of the North Shore. Students will spend their first two days on shore exploring topics in marine science and maritime heritage in MG’s labs, aquarium and in the field.
