Take a Walk on the Wild Side: Ducks and Geese

Walk on the Wild side with ducks and geese at Joppa Flats Education Center!

Come to Joppa Flats Education Center where adults and children can spend quality family time in the great outdoors finding, observing, and admiring local wildlife. Excursions include a group game to burn off some steam, an on-the-water scavenger hunt, or a guided tour. We'll observe, investigate, and compare coastal environments and their inhabitants, both on- and offshore.

Sea Ravens are plentiful in Gloucester Harbor. Learn about the other species!

Maritime Gloucester invites kids in grades 2-5 to a vacation week session about the sea life in Gloucester Harbor - part of a week full of educational sessions during April vacation! What kinds of marine life can be found around Maritime Gloucester’s main pier?  In our digital microscope lab, we’ll get an up-close view of the tiny live plankton found right outside our doors.

Afterschool at Joppa: A Waterfowl Welcome

Kids can be game wardens for the day in this afterschool program at Joppa Flats

Our afternoon starts off with self-guided activities, challenges, or puzzles that lead us to our topic for the day. As a group, we'll observe, investigate, and compare wildlife, their adaptations, and the changes that they undergo each season. Participants may play the role of a zoologist, a naturalist, or even an Arctic explorer throughout this series. Each experience will leave your young scientist eager for the next session.

It's Big Night!

Celebrate Spring's Vernal Migration at Ipswich River Sanctuary Topsfield!

Each year on the first warm rainy night of spring, wood frogs and mole salamanders begin a mass migration to vernal pools where they breed. If you happen to be out on one of these evenings, the experience can be spectacular. Tonight, a part of the sanctuary will be transformed into a Big Night scene. Participants will take a one-hour guided walk along the Vernal Pool Trail, where they will meet some interesting characters who will share some facts and stories about themselves, vernal pools, and this special time of year.

Craving Spring? Join the folks at The Trustees' Long Hill and Sedgwick Gardens to learn about seed starting for our Pick Your Own Flower Field. Help us sow the first big round of seeds. With your help, these seeds will grow into the cutting flowers that we grow in our Flower Fields! Bring the family: ages 10 and up. Please pre-register.
