Food, music, live entertainment, dance, craft and fun come together for a great family time at the Downtown Gloucester Block every Third Saturday through September! Five music stages, shopping 'til 11pm, outside sidewalk dining, live dance performances and all kinds of other fun things to do make the streets come alive. Kids will love the singers and roaming magician, and they'll find games, facepainting, kids snacks, balloons, giant chess and more in 'Kids Town'!

Blue Star Museums is a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 1,800 museums across America to offer free admission to all active duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day, May 27, through Labor Day, September 2, 2013.

Gloucester Uechi Karate Academy invites you to join them for this safe, interactive seminar designed to introduce you to issues related to personal safety. Their Assault Prevention Seminar promises to be an informative and engaging session where you will learn about what perpetrators of assault are looking for when they choose a victim and what you can do to reduce your chances of becoming a victim through self-awareness.

 

Memorial Day is a big celebration in Saugus, MA. Come thank our veterans.

The Saugus Veterans Council Memorial Day Parade will start on Jackson Street at 9:00 am to Cliftondale Square along Lincoln Avenue to Central Street then onto Winter Street to the Veterans’ lot at Riverside Cemetery for graveside services including an invocation and a '21 Gun Salute'. The parade will re-form and march to Saugus Town Hall for the memorial ceremony with Grand Marshall, Norm Hansen and Keynote Speaker, LCDR Stephen Harris.

Follow a red bouncing ball through a whimsical story of a boy and his dog who discover their love for each other during a game of fetch. Children of all ages will enjoy this small display of original watercolor illustrations created by children’s author and illustrator Mary Newall DePalma for her latest book, Bow-Wow Wiggle-Waggle.

In  “Crowning Glory” Wenham Museum celebrates the ultimate accessory—the hat.  As the seasons change, the exhibit will follow suit with the hats on display, moving from delicate spring florals and pale felt fedoras to big bright flowers and hats to keep the summer rays away. 

Wenham Museum collections span a century of fashion from modest bonnets to the iconic 1920's cloche to glamorous profile hats from Wenham Museum’s costume collection. 

Children will enjoy looking at themselves dressed in costumes in the gallery fun-mirror!

Exhibits for families and children at Wenham Museum NorthShore of MA

Beep Beep! Honk Honk! Chuga-chuga-choo-choo! Chariots to race cars and pull-toys to wind-ups have made their way to the Wenham Museum, 132 Main Street, Wenham, MA for the brand new exhibition, Wheels: Getting from Here to There.

This interactive exhibit will give visitors an opportunity to see vintage antique toys, photos and a velocipede. “What’s a velocipede?” you may ask—well, find out at Wenham Museum’s engaging summer exhibit! Illustrate your own car of the future, climb into a kid-sized race car, and build and race your own Lego® car right in the gallery.

North Shore Community College is proud to offer kids entering grades 3–8 a summer of fun, interesting, mind bending classes that focus on making cool science experiments like flowing volcanoes and foaming potions. And it wouldn't be summer if you didn't get to have some fun fitness time playing games inside and out. And surprise everyone when you make your own delicious and healthy recipes - fruit smoothies, homemade granola, fruit kabobs, and more. Then get onboard for hobby shop time. Build a bird house, learn to stitch a puppet, or make your own room sign or treasure box. Come one week, four weeks, half days or all days, you will never do the same thing twice on your journey.

Join Amesbury Public Library to plant your own garden to take home! The Topsfield Fair has donated Growums garden kits to us! Choose from one of 4 garden types and use magically expanding soil to plant for different herbs or vegetables. Keep track on your garden online and learn more about planting, plant growth and gardens. Registration is not required and all ages are welcome!

 

The Mayor's Cup Race at the Gloucester Schooner Festival is just part of the fun

The Gloucester Schooner Festival is a  wonderful celebration of Gloucester's fishing and maritime history during labor day weekend. This year's festival, hosted by Maritime Gloucester,  is Gloucester’s major marine event, with participating vessels coming from ports along the Eastern seaboard and beyond. There will be both large and small vessels—ranging from 19 feet to over 100 feet in length. You will see new boats and old boats, from newly built (Ardelle - launched 2011) to over 100 years old!

 

Ipswich Jazz Project teams up with Ipswicvh High Jazz Ensemble at Crane Castle

The Ipswich High School jazz ensemble joins the IMS Jazz Orchestra and North Shore Jazz Project for a free afternoon concert.  This performance will spotlight the talent of young local North Shore talent, so come and get your groove on! This concert will take place in the Barn at The Trustees of Reservations Castle Hill, 290 Argilla Road, Ipswich!

Shalin Liu Performance Center invites you to a FREE concert at their Shalin Liu Center! Created in 2010, the Wenham Street Brass is a trio of young professionals dedicated to engaging audiences through performance and education. They are the ensemble-in-residence for A Street Music Education, a music school in Quincy, MA. With graduate degrees from the New England Conservatory, it has a wide variety of experience that reflects an interest in music of many time periods and genres.

Kids will learn to build fairy houses with natural materials at Lynch Park, Beve

05/24/2013: This workshop was canceled! Come to a fun filled workshop hosted by the Beverly Recreation Department! Building a fairy house is a great way for kids to be creative and learn about preserving our planet. Use twigs, rocks, shells, mulch, sand, pinecones, moss, clay and more. Children encouraged to dress like fairies! Materials included. A photographer may take pictures for parents (extra fee for pictures). Instructor: Gigi Sisman-Thomson.

Family Martial Arts and More brings kids ages 7-10 a summer filled with safe, fun activities!

Kids will enjoy a variety of activities designed to develop their athletic skills and will learn the fundamentals of sports and competition. Indoor games will be provided during rainy days and bottled water, and morning and afternoon snacks are provided.

The Orchestra on the Hill will perform at Crane Estate to celebrate Spring!

The The Trustees of Reservations are hosting The Orchestra on the Hill for a Spring concert at Castle Hill on the Crane Estate! Celebrate Spring with a  delightful evening of concerto favorites performed at the beautiful Crane Castle with music by Mozart, Bach and Vivaldi.  Tickets are available at the door.

Kid's Night Out (KNO) is back at the YWCA Greater Newburyport.  Parents, relax and enjoy a well deserved night out (or in) while our highly qualified YWCA staff watch over your little munchkins (children in grades 1-3).  Their evewning at the YWCA Greater Newburyport starts with pizza, music, and activities.  Then it is on to the pool for an open swim and the evening ends with a short video.

MAC Blue Sky Adventure Camp invites all campers to pursue and achieve personal growth through group challenges and individual success. Beverly Public Library hosts the Science and Astronomy Club every Thursday that school is in session.  The program is geared toward kids in grades 1-5 and is designed to nurture an in interest in the sciences.  This is a drop in program - no registration required!

Kids are encouraged to ride their bikes to raise money for the Pan mass Challeng

This summer, the Pan-Mass Challenge Pan-Massachusetts Challenge (PMC) Greater Newburyport Kids Ride will be one of 38 PMC Kids Rides throughout New England and beyond. The PMC Kids Rides program in 2012 attracted nearly 4,500 cyclists between the ages of 2 and 15, who rode between one and 26 miles in mini-bike-a-thons to raise money for cancer care and research.
